my husband vs the juicer
We realized this week that our orange tree out back was finally producing fruit again. The first year we moved in, we had so much fruit we didn’t know what to do with it. Sheepishly, we were newbys. The second year we had Petey, our first shetland terrior, who chewed on everything including the tree. The second year, we got Max, our second sheltand terrier, who also likes to chew on everything. This year, both the dogs are finally coming out of the chewing phase. Tree survived.
So while at Walmart the other day, hubby kept saying we should look at juicers. I was totally against it!! I knew I wasn’t going to want to juice anything. It is just a pain in the butt, for not a whole lot of juice. Lame? Lazy? Maybe, but I don’t really care. For $2 a bottle, I would rather buy. He looked at a $13 push down juicer and I advised him not to spend the money. So he opted for the $3 “do it all yourself” model.
Without realizing it, I said last night how nice it would be to have orange juice. He dragged me out back and had me pick my oranges. Then he came back in and told he to juice them. No way, I said. You bought the juicer, you juice. Surprisingly he did. Although I think he did it to show me how easy it was. After 15 minutes of him puffing and twisting and pushing and popping out seeds and squeezing and huffing (amid all my heckling) he had 8oz of orange juice. He was so proud. I thought it was funny. His comments - “you better like it”, “the family juice” and my favorite “that is why juice is so expensive!” LOL It was really good, but seriously was it worth it? I will be shocked if he ever pulls that out again.
It was worth the memory of him doing all that work. He smiled and laughed the whole time. Course I can be really funny when I want to.
Good times, good times.
