my cat is really pissed off at my husband right now
My husband can not even get near her without her hissing and spitting. I do not know why she is doing this. I have two guesses though -
-
kitty is having residual feelings from the last argument hubby and I had (she gets upset when we argue and tries to defend me from him and confort me)
-
when he pets kitty and she doesn’t want him to, he keeps his hand in her face instead of retreating and giving her space; this pisses her off and she ends up hissing and spitting at him; sometimes he will keeps his hand there til she gets up and leaves
I have been working on petting therapy for about three weeks now. She has a big problem with stress and I remembered reading a note about cats who flip like a light switch – one minute they are calm and the next they attack and bite you – that this petting therapy is good for them. This is my Izabel. To fix this, I have learned to pet her until her tail starts twitching back and forth and then immediately stop no matter how much she wants me to continue petting her. I think it has been working like a charm. She has been curling up next to me and cuddling waiting for me to pet her again. She lays next to me for twenty minutes at a time. She comes and finds me to pet her. She is purring like a mad cat lately. And I LOVE every minute of it.
She would be mostly stress free if hubby would stop doing whatever he is doing to piss her off.
And let me add that he may very well not be doing anything at all. She is very good at redirected agression. He could have been the first one she saw after a book fell off the shelf and scared her. You just never know.
I would guess though, that if he would stop trying to push her to like him that would be a great first step in their relationship. When she hisses or growls at him he should walk away and let her be.

Hmmmm… have you talked to hubbie about petting her, how to pet her, when and when not to pet her?? Cause if he knows… then he’s doing it on purpose and that’s bad. If he doesn’t know, then he just needs a nudge in the right direction.
My kitty is very, very, VERY standoffish when it comes to men in general so I sort of know what you have on your hands.
Good luck!

Oh he knows. He just wants to make her like him his way. I have asked him to stop on numerous occasions. It is like trying to rationalize with a 2 y ear old. She just wants what she wants when she wants and no amount of cajoling or pushing will make her change her mind.
